Complete changeout

System installation

Sizing first, then the changeout. Improper equipment can leave mold, smells and rooms that never settle, so the load comes before the invoice.

A system that is too big or too small fails the house, not the equipment

One Size Does NOT Fit All is how we put it, and it is the whole argument for a load calculation. A unit that is too large cools the air fast, shuts off early and never runs long enough to pull humidity out. The house feels clammy, rooms never settle, and Houston-area humidity shows up as that musty smell at the vents.

Improper system equipment may produce mold, embarrassing smells and uncomfortable living conditions. A unit that is too small does the opposite and runs flat out every August afternoon without catching up. Either mistake starts on the day of the quote, which is why the sizing work comes before the equipment pick and long before anyone talks about brand.

The changeout follows the calculation: sizing, then line set, then plenum

We measure the house first: square footage, insulation, windows, the duct layout and what the attic is doing. That load calculation sets the tonnage. Only then do we talk equipment, whether that is a Trane, a Goodman, a Ruud or another brand, and whether a variable speed system, which may provide up to between 700 and 750 stages, earns its cost in your home.

On install day the old condenser and air handler come out, the pad is checked, and the line set, filter rack, plenum connections and take-off collars are checked or replaced as needed. The wiring, the disconnect and the drain line with its float switch are tested before the crew leaves. One reviewer's 5-ton Carrier unit was replaced inside and outside in about 3.5 hours.

New factory-warranted units, soft start installation and high energy efficiency systems are all options, and we give a free estimate for a complete system changeout. Financing is available, so the size of the invoice does not have to decide the size of the system you can live with.

How to tell a new system was sized and installed correctly

A well-sized system runs in long, quiet cycles, holds the thermostat setting through an afternoon and leaves no room a few degrees off from the others. Humidity in the house stays comfortable. If one room still lags, the answer is usually airflow in the duct, not a bigger unit, and we would rather balance the airflow than sell you more tonnage.

Watch for the warning signs after any install: short cycling, a musty smell from the vents, water in the pan, or a house that feels damp even at a cool setting. One reviewer asked for the balance in a front room to be corrected and the crew came back and adjusted it. Call James Garner's team at (888) 524-7247 and we will return to it.
